How does selling Avon work?

As an Avon representative, you will share the brochures with potential customers and take orders. You are an independent sales representative and not an employee of Avon. This is an opportunity to start your own business at a low start up cost and a low cost to maintain.

Can I sell Avon online?

Yes! You choose if you want to sell Avon face to face, online only, or a combination of both. As an Avon representative, you are provided with a free website that allows you to serve customers throughout the United States and build a national team when people sign up to sell Avon from your website. Most representatives do a combination of online and face to face sales, but many are selling Avon online only.

Avon provides a free Social Media center with posts that you can use to promote your business on Social Media like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest and Avon provides training on promoting on Social Media as well. There is even a Facebook group dedicated to just that that is exclusive for Avon representatives.

How old do you have to be to Sell Avon?

You must be 18 years old to sign up to be a representative.

How much does it cost to sell Avon?

To start your business you will choose a starter kit. Right now the kits are $25, $50, and $100. The biggest difference in the kits is that the more expensive kits contain more products up front. The great thing about Avon is that you do not necessarily need products on hand to be able to sell them so the $25 kit has everything you need and is valued at $80. However, if you’d like to start with more and have more to invest initially you can choose to start with the $50 or $100 kits. Once you sign up your only costs are based on what you choose to spend. If you choose to buy catalogs, samples, etc that will cost you some money. Each order you place also has shipping costs based on the size of the order. You can charge your customers an order processing charge of .75 to $2 (most reps do not charge more than $2) to help you recoup your shipping costs so they do not cut into your profits. There are no fees to maintain your business such as website fees so all costs that go back into the business is based on what you choose to put back into the business. Many representatives choose to utilize their online stores more in order to avoid additional costs to maintain the business such as brochure costs and shipping costs. Having your customers order online puts the shipping costs back on them and you reap the rewards when Avon does all of the work (collects payment, delivers order to the customer on your behalf).

How much can you make selling Avon?

There are no tried and true guaranteed specifics on earnings. All representatives earn different amounts. A lot of it has to do with how much effort you put into your business. There is a correlation between effort and income generated. The representatives that put in more effort, make more than those that put in little effort. As an Avon representative you will make most of your money initially from sales. This is considered your “right now” money as you are in complete control in how much you bring in from your sales. If you aren’t making enough money from sales then reach out to more people. You earn 20-40% from sales based on how big your order size is in a given two week period called a campaign. Avon has 26 campaigns (26 catalogs) in a year. Our fashion, home, and seasonal products are fixed income of 20%. As a top seller, you can make 25% on the fixed income products and up to 50% on our core products of makeup, skin care, fragrance, wellness, jewelry, and personal care. There are representatives that earn an extra $100 a month to representatives that are bringing in an extra $300-$500 a month to representatives that have been doing this for years and are bringing in $20,000+ a month. No, I am not kidding. Just know that the representatives that are raking in the cash have been working this business for years and have grown their businesses to these levels through consistent efforts of finding customers and making money through sales and building a team through the leadership opportunity. The average representative brings in an extra $200-$500 a month and makes 30-35% commission on the core product lines. A little more about me: I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia and still live locally. I have my Masters in Teaching for Early and Elementary Education and I am an early childhood educator. I have been teaching since 2012. I joined Avon in August 2011 in order to earn an income around going to college full time. When I first joined Avon, I had no idea what I was getting myself into and I had never heard of direct sales. My mother had actually been an Avon Representative briefly before I was born and she shared some about the company with me and said that I should go for it! I met with my mentor and she signed me up and the rest is history! Over the last several years, Avon has become a major passion of mine and I have enjoyed being able to share Avon and it’s products and missions with those around me.In 2013, I took an interest in expanding my online Avon business and since then I have been blogging and growing my Social Media presence. In 2018, I was honored by Avon to participate in three pilot programs to do with growing my sales online because of my growth in online sales. In 2018, I doubled my online sales over my 2017 online sales. Avon is truly loved by many and when you start sharing that online you can really see the love and support from others worldwide. Even though we can only serve customers in the United States and share the Avon opportunity with those in the USA, worldwide followers will find you on Social Media and the web.  In 2015, I was awarded the Spirit of Avon award and I earned the coveted President’s Club sales level and my first Mrs. P.F.E. Albee figurine. Mrs. P.F.E. Albee was the first Avon Lady back when David McConnell (Avon’s founder) had the California Perfume Company (which later became Avon Products). In 2016, Avon Products North America was bought out and thus New Avon, LLC was born. I have been super excited for the new changes of New Avon, LLC! My goals in 2019 are to continue to grow my online presence, maintain President’s Club sales level and increase my sales over 2018, and add more people to my team A-Mazing Reps by helping others to start their own Avon businesses and build those businesses to be successful and help them reach their goals. I do not have a family yet, but my hope is that when I decide to start one I can use Avon as a source of income in order to stay at home with my children when they are small like my mom stayed home with me and my brother until we both were in school.
